• “Let me make this clear.” He gathered me up, depositing me on the counter, spreading my legs wide to step between them. It happened too fast for my protests to be voiced. His hands bracketing me in on either side. His eyes searched mine and a shiver trickled down my spine.
• “I’m the only one allowed to touch you, princess.” He breathed the words against my lips and my damned body responded. My lips parted and I drew in his essence. I craved it. The words were a promise, a threat even and their meaning was slow to register. He hadn’t touched me since that engagement party and I found myself searching for that self-hatred in his eyes. It was there, barely concealed, but waning beneath the desire rising up. If I tried hard enough, I could ignore it but I couldn’t.
