- Distraction was a word that had little weight in my vocabulary. Once a goal was firmly set in my mind nothing was able to deter my focus. I often had a one-track mind which made my success in relationships frighteningly low. Or so I’d suspect if I were the relationship type. My mother did often lament my recklessness in maintaining interest in her or my father’s affairs. It wasn’t as if I didn’t care but once my mind was occupied with a problem to solve every mundane thing faded away.
- Tonight, the presence of Riley Magner was testing every word I’d once utilized to characterise myself. Every long-standing notion I’d come to accept about myself hung in the air for re-evaluation. Her entourage had taken a table directly abreast of my own and I couldn’t fathom why I kept angling my neck to sneak a glance at her.
