  • Her features betrayed nothing or perhaps the stillness in them was the betrayal? I barely knew what her baseline emotion was and Riley Magnar was proving to be an enigma; equal parts intriguing and confusing. Challenges stimulated me as much as their potential to frustrate me. Judging her thoughts based on these sparse interactions might lead me to the wrong conclusion. That didn’t stop me from formulating some inferences though. How could it?
  • Minuscule and fleeting but I noticed a hint of hesitation before she offered me a smile as if my words meant nothing. As if it had not rattled her in the slightest. But wasn’t she easily rattled? As it stood, this was the least awkward interaction we have had to date. I was accustomed to finding Riley shying away from me, being rattled by my attention but right now as she peered into my eyes with ease. Her back was straight and her breathing steady. A glimpse of the confident powerhouse she had the potential to be. Her cheeks were flushed though but I assumed it was a side effect of the alcohol.
