• I couldn’t allow him to see me sweat, especially not when he knew my real name. Was he a spy for my father? Had they finally found me? I became too aware of every vibration and sound housed in my body. A distorted ringing isolated in my ears and disoriented me but I forced myself to return to a neutral state. If he was really sent to drag me back, then I won’t give him the confirmation he asked for.
• “I think you’ve confused me with another student,” my corresponding smile was anything but sweet but he didn’t seem to be phased. All of a sudden the emptiness of the room was drenched with hostility. Or was I imagining that? Perhaps, not from his end but on mine I was certain the air was singed with darker energy.
