• “It’s of no use, girl.” The man whispered behind my back, “we are not in the habit of leaving witnesses.” His chest rumbled against my back and I realised he was laughing. The sick bastard!
• Vera took off at my command, her body veering out of sight with the man hot on her heels. I struggled against my captor, my need to get him off me becoming more urgent. I prayed to the Gods that Vera escaped. I could never forgive myself if anything happened to her.
