Chapter 26

  • *~Riley~*
  • The searing pain burrowing its talons into the sides of my head intensified as my eyes eased open from a sleepless night of meddlesome dreams of a dark-haired, brooding lecturer. Dreams I definitely should not be having. A sharp intake of air flowed into my lungs and I rectified my mistake. My wide eyes reduced to a careful squint instead. It was too damned bright! Even with the lights still off. Part of the problem was attributed to the dull ill-fitting curtain that provided coverage for the single window in my room. It was placed on the opposite side from where my bed sat. An inopportune placement considering the requirement of getting up and going over. Not that it would make much of a difference. I always complained about those damned curtains. It was hardly large enough to cover the entirety of the window, light seeped through intrusively from two uncovered strips on either side of the window.
  • I need to have that chat with the landlord. He’d made it clear that we were not authorised to change anything. Not even the curtains. Which made little sense. We often rotated bedsheets that we’ve purchased ourselves. How was that different from the stupid drapes? They were so damned inadequate at their job which was literally only to keep the sun out. It had been too long since I felt anger this blinding.
