Chapter 1313 Chasing Happiness (III)

• This whole trip was barely better than driving to Sokchov—it only felt a tiny bit easier. The highway was fine at first, but once they entered Sokchov, the road to their county slipped off the expressway onto a national route winding through mountains, and the conditions were rough. Chadwick Fullner had to crawl along, careful and steady. Good thing he’d already done two round trips to Sokchov’s highlands; by now, no road could really scare him. Still, it was maddening: reaching Sokchov only meant you’d covered half the journey. The rest was all in the mountains, where “road” was a generous word in many places. Navigation couldn’t find half the spots. Chadwick had never been here before, and in some stretches, there wasn’t even anyone around to ask. He took wrong turns more than once and only clawed his way back on track after a long slog. If it hadn’t been for Madison Sawyer, he couldn’t imagine himself putting up with this much pain.
• Three days later, he finally reached the little village where his cousin lived. Looking at the cluster of houses in the distance, Chadwick nearly cried. He was dead tired, his heart pounding like a drum—partly exhaustion, partly a strange tug, like a sixth sense: Madison had to be here.
• There was no road into the village center; the car couldn’t pass. His dad’s address only said to reach this village—nothing more. So Chadwick parked outside the village and decided to lean on his tongue and his two feet to find his cousin’s home.
