Chapter 1024 Someone in the Shadows (Part Eighteen)
- “And what really freaks me out is this might be way messier than we think. Why would so many shareholders gang up to block Mr. Wembley from restarting the project? Saying they’re just protecting their own gains feels weak. Regal Peaks is bleeding out. Even if they freeze things as-is, their shares have tanked hard. You think these people, who worship profit, will just swallow that? Plus, they’ve been in Regal Peaks’ management for years. They know exactly how bad the crisis is. Keep dragging this out and the company will buckle. If it actually collapses, their shares turn into scrap paper. And come on, they built this with Miss Sawyer’s dad. In both feelings and common sense, there should be folks backing his push to fix things. So why are they all shooting him down in sync?”
- Chadwick Fullner laid out his doubts to Kate Penrose. “Forget ‘human nature.’ I trust cold reality. What they’re doing doesn’t even line up with basic human instincts. So there’s only one explanation—someone’s pulling the strings. Maybe a Regal Peaks competitor saw the timing and paid them enough to do this. Push them to reject Miss Sawyer’s dad’s plan, block the one shot Regal Peaks has to come back, and finish Regal Peaks off. If that’s true, we’re in deeper trouble. They’ve got muscle, Regal Peaks is covered in wounds, and worst of all, we don’t even know who’s hiding in the dark.”
- Chadwick Fullner said it through clenched teeth and slammed the wall. Right then, he felt sheer helplessness—a hot anger at himself for being useless, tangled up with bitter self-blame.
