Chapter 6 Becoming a Gigolo (1)

  • All Chadwick felt was that the entire day had been a little bizarre; someone complained about him out of the blue, he had somehow saved people, and then he was fired without warning. Right after, he somehow found himself a high-paying job.
  • Chadwick held a cigarette between his lips as he walked into a housing block, which used to be the housing for the families of factory workers in the 80s. It was a small, four-storey brick building with a corridor on the outside, and there were about eight blocks of structures such as this in the vicinity. After going through the changes of history, this place had almost become the slum of the city, and the people living in this area came from other places to work here. They usually couldn't afford to buy a house or rent an apartment with their meager salaries, and this was the only place they could afford to rent.
  • Chadwick walked to the door of one unit, pushed it open, and went in.
  • On the couch in the flat, a man and a woman were tangled together, and when they saw him coming in, they jumped in astonishment. The man raised his voice at Chadwick as he scrambled upright. "Damn it, why didn't you knock before coming in?"
  • "What the hell? Are you blaming me? Can the both of you practice some restraint? Do you have any idea what's the time now? It's only 8.00PM. Who starts so early in the evening? Also, this couch is my bed. Can you guys please get a room when the both of you are h*rny since you have a bed inside? It's not convenient at all when the couch is so tiny." Unbothered, Chadwick paced in, poured himself a glass of water from the dispenser, and drank as he spoke.
  • "Do you have any shame at all, Chad? What do you mean that this couch belongs to you? We're the ones renting this place, alright? And you're the one who moved in with just one bag. You never paid any part in the rent, and I see to your daily necessities and food every day. The woman sat up and told him off as she flushed crimson. Clearly, she was really a little pissed.
  • "Hey, don't be such ingrates. Tell me, Keith. Didn't you get the money from me for your first date with Yasmin? Also, when she was pregnant in the third year of university, I only ate bread for two months to save up enough money for you two to go to the hospital. Do you have any conscience at all?" Chadwick paced next to the couch, then changed into slippers, and while he was speaking, he reached out a foot and nudged the man named Keith on his bum. "Move over," he said and sat on the couch.
  • "Mr. Chad Fullner, we're not driving you out, really. Look, what kind of relationship do we have? But you've seen it for yourself how inconvenient it is that you're staying here. The both of us have needs, don't you think? When you're working in the day, so are we, and when we're home in the evening, we have to unwind, right? With a grown man like you sleeping on the couch, how are we supposed to live our lives normally?" Keith whined, pulling a long face.
  • "You make it sound like the both of you have never done it before. Damn it, there are seven days in a week, and you guys do it once every evening from Monday to Friday. I don't know if you do it during the daytime on Saturday and Sunday, but at least twice on Saturday evening, and only Sunday evening is a little more peaceful. Youngsters, don't exhaust your energy. You can only be at it for another five years with your frequency and Keith's body. So, you better control yourselves!" Chadwick said earnestly, patting Keith's shoulder.
  • "What the hell, man? Are you keeping a record?" Keith's eyes were wide while Yasmin's face was scarlet, and he kicked Chadwick as he spoke, appearing embarrassed.
  • "Can you blame me? We're only separated by a wall, and it's not soundproof at all. So, whenever Yasmin cries with all her might. It's impossible for me to block it out."
  • Yasmin became even more embarrassed after he said that, and she hit him as she exclaimed, "You're shameless!"
  • Regarding Chadwick's words, Keith had no words to say, but he said instead, "That's enough. Bro, I'm begging you. Please move out. If you continue to live here, I'll be traumatized whenever I want to do it. I'm begging you. Don't you have a job now? I know you're in a difficult situation, but you're not so bad that you're saving up on this 1,000 rent monthly. Why don't I help you to look for a unit in the building opposite? Today, I saw a family moving out opposite the building, and the owner wants to rent it out. In the future, you can live there by yourself and still come over for meals, okay? I guarantee that I'll serve you with good food and drinks every day."
  • "Bro, I don't want to intrude on you guys on purpose, but I really have no other way out. You know my situation as well. Not to mention 1,000 every month, I'm saving every penny that I can. Honestly speaking, I wanted to move out and find a cheap place, but I have to tell you a piece of bad news. I'm jobless again. Maybe I can't move out within this period. So, just bear with me for a little longer. Pretend that I don't exist and do whatever that you want." Chadwick took out the cigarettes from his pocket and threw one stick at Keith.
  • "What? Jobless? Are you kidding me?"
  • "I was fired. I ran into a b*tch who complained about me until I was fired…" Then, he leaned on the couch, held the remote control, and changed the channel. Then, he slowly told them everything that had happened today.
  • Two other people were living in the same flat as him. The man was named Keith Branwell, which was the same name as a famous singer. Actually, it was a coincidence. His father's name was also Keith, and his maternal grandfather was also named Keith. In addition, they all had a liking for music. After his father gave it a thought, he felt that the name Keith had already grown on him, so he gave his child the same name.
  • The woman was named Yasmin Langston; the three of them were university friends. Among them, Keith and Chadwick were close friends who shared the same dorm, and their relationship was the sturdiest. On the other hand, Yasmin started dating Keith when they were in university, and the friendship between the three of them was very concrete.
  • After graduation, Chadwick returned to his hometown while Keith and Yasmin moved to Millsborough to work. Currently, Keith has a job in a sales company, while Yasmin works as a clerk in a foreign company. Their salaries were not high, totaling up to less than 10,000 per month. Actually, they were kidding when they urged Chadwick to move out. When he moved in, he only had one bag, and it was the both of them who personally went to the train station to pick him up. After he arrived, Chadwick had been staying here, and just as Yasmin said, they both knew about his situation. Hence, they didn't let him spend a single penny on food and lodging. Furthermore, Yasmin was the one who prepared dinner every night and served it to him on the table, never making him do it. For friends to go to this length for him, there was really nothing he could pick on.
  • When Keith heard everything, his eyes almost popped out of their sockets. "10,000? And only working a few hours every week?"
  • "Exactly, that's what she told me."
  • "She must be fooling you. There can't be such a good deal in this world," Yasmin said in disbelief.
  • "Yeah. Moreover, even though a person like you is not looking bad—half-decent, actually—you don't seem like you have what it takes to be a gigolo with that physical quality of yours. What does that wealthy woman see in you? We've been friends for years, but how come I didn't see that you have the potential to be a gigolo?" Keith commented, scrutinizing Chadwick.
  • "Get lost. What I said is true. Regardless, I'm going to check it out tomorrow. I can't do without a job now, and if it doesn't work out, I'll just look for another job tomorrow!" Chadwick leaned back and yawned; it had been a tiring day today.
  • "Okay, bro. Don't brood over this or be in a hurry to pay your debts. Take your time. You can't push yourself into a corner, after all. Alright, we're going to bed now, and you should sleep early, too!" Keith pulled Yasmin into the room after seeing how tired he was, which was their bedroom, and Chadwick's bed was the couch that they were sitting on earlier.
