Chapter 1128 Interlude (VII)

  • Chadwick Fullner saw her eyes brim over and snapped back to himself. “Miss Sawyer, I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have lost it like that.” He wanted to let go but couldn’t bear to. The faint clean scent on Madison Sawyer’s skin, the soft warmth—like poison. The more he fought it, the more it consumed him. Thankfully, a shred of sense still held: he couldn’t make Madison Sawyer sad. He kissed her hair and spoke in a rough, dry voice. “Don’t cry, Miss Sawyer. I won’t hurt you. I swear—until our wedding day, I won’t push past your line. I can’t bear to. Don’t be scared, okay? I hate it when you cry—when you’re hurting.”
  • It took effort, but he finally got Madison calm. Both of them were terrified they’d disturb Chadwick’s dad. If he stepped out and saw them plastered together, sweaty and rumpled, that would be beyond awkward. Madison leaned to his ear, whispering, voice shaky. “Then can you let me go, please?”
  • Her breath grazed his ear and neck as she spoke, and Chadwick almost lost it again, pulling her tighter. “Don’t talk. Let me hold you like this for a bit, okay…”
