• Chadwick Fullner had barely stepped out of Nova Hospital when his phone rang. It was Dad. He’d been camping out at the hospital for days and hadn’t gone home at night. Afraid Dad would worry, he’d lied and said he was on a business trip. Figuring Dad was anxious, Chad picked up.
• Dad cut straight to it. “Make some time to come home tonight.”
• “Huh?” Chad froze. With Finn’s situation, he really didn’t dare leave at night. But he couldn’t tell Dad he was taking care of Finn—Dad would blow a gasket. So he stuck to the lie. “Dad, I’m out of town. I can’t make it back tonight.” He planned to go home and look after Dad once Finn stabilized a bit.
