• Chadwick Fullner and Madison Sawyer walked into the ward and saw everything packed. Emily and Yasmin Langston were chatting, while Donnie Burns buzzed with excitement, grilling Keith Branwell about the nitty-gritty of that grape price war.
• “Hey, it’s not Sunday. You two sneaked back on a workday without telling me. That’s called playing hooky,” Chadwick joked as he stepped in. He didn’t mean it. Emily and Donnie were on long-term business trips and only came back regularly to report. Everything else Chadwick let them run on their own. As long as the work got done, he didn’t micromanage how they arranged their time on the road. Of course, that trust came because their results were solid—new stores opening fast and smooth—so he felt totally at ease.
• “We’re here to report in and update you,” Emily said with a smile, then apologized. “Sorry, Mr. Fullner. Keith’s being discharged, and Donnie and I figured we had to come back, wanted to surprise you all. So we skipped the formalities and came straight here, planning to file leave after. If you need to punish us, no complaints.”
