Chapter 1175 Accident (Twenty)
- “And it was stripped away by your own hand.” Kate Penrose let out a laugh—thin, defeated. “I know Miss Sawyer too well. Something this big? She would’ve told me. There’s only one reason she didn’t: you told her not to. You knew I’d push back. You were afraid I’d mess up your shot at this. Chadwick Fullner, you don’t get me at all, and you don’t trust me either. Maybe I haven’t given enough. But if you can’t even give me basic trust—tell me, how is that fair to me?”
- “I never meant to mess with you two. It’s just… that night you called me past midnight, I thought you needed me. Even if it was just as a friend, I was happy. I finally had a legit reason to stand by your side. But then you said one word, and even helping you in that tiny way wasn’t allowed.” Kate spoke quietly now, no longer hysterical. Her tears slid down without a sound. “It feels like when you need me, I come running. When you don’t, you kick me to the curb. I’ve got no dignity left in front of you, no place. What burns me most is—my first reaction was hurt, because I care. I couldn’t just laugh it off like nothing.”
- Kate had always been proud, never putting anyone—Chadwick Fullner included—in her eyes. Yet in the end, all that pride crumbled under hopeless love.
