Chapter 1126 Interlude (V)
- Chadwick Fullner thought for a moment, then his eyes suddenly lit up. “Right. She likes someone—she told me herself before.” He dug for the words Belinda Hayes had used back then. He’d had a feeling he couldn’t quite name, but Belinda had been firm: he didn’t know that guy. “For real. They’re not together, and with her status it’s not convenient… Anyway, Sawyer, there’s really nothing between me and her.”
- Madison Sawyer only smiled faintly. That smile tasted bitter to Chadwick. She slowly asked, “Chad, you know this too—Belinda… Tina, she’s the girl who fits you best. She checks every box you want in a wife, especially the family background you care about most. Tell me something. If you knew for sure she liked you, would you choose to be with her? If it were before—before I tried to kill myself—and the two of us were both standing right in front of you, who would you pick?”
- Chadwick took a long breath. Madison’s question hurt. He pressed his hands on her shoulders, helpless and pained. “Sawyer, this isn’t picking veggies at a market. Don’t make it like I’m choosing from a shelf, okay? In love, no one is a commodity you sort through. And yeah, if I were with her, because of similar experiences we’d have tons to talk about. I’ve got plenty of friends, but not many who really get me—she is one. I admit it. She’s different to me. If you didn’t exist—if there were a real shot with her—I might consider it. But right now, I care more about our feelings. Sawyer, what I feel for you is not the same… If after all this time you still don’t believe me, that’s okay. We still have the future. More time. I believe one day you’ll get it.”
