Chapter 9 Won't Sell My Body (2)

  • Alright, we'll take everything in this set. Let's have him try on another set, Samantha said to the sales associate with a nod after forcing Chadwick to twirl as she watched with assessing eyes as if she was looking at an inanimate object. Then, she mumbled under her breath, "I didn't think he'd look so good. He has a nice body."
  • ''Of course!'' Chadwick called out as he headed back into the dressing room. "I was once the star of the basketball team. I had the height and the strength."
  • He wasn't lying either. When he was in university, he was part of the university's basketball team and the point guard. Of course, he wasn't one of the tallest point guards around. However, he was considered quite tall compared to the average basketball player. He was exactly six feet tall. So, while he wasn't tall enough to astonish others, he was still taller than most.
  • In the end, Samantha bought three whole sets for him. Although the total ended up being around a hundred and eighty thousand or so, she didn't even falter before paying with a swift swipe of her card.
  • Now, remain dressed in this set of clothes and throw out your old clothes!" she said to him after paying.
  • ''Why should I throw them away? They're not tattered,'' he asked as he held the bag containing his clothing.
  • ''Do you think your new clothes are less than your rags? I've bought you three sets of clothing. Those should be enough for you to wear,'' she said with a scoff.
  • ''I can wear these while I'm working. These cost quite a pretty penny. It would be a shame to throw them away,'' he replied.
  • ''Can you not be such a cheapskate? Do you base your whole life around money?'' She couldn't stand it any longer. After all, she despised people, like Chadwick, who thought money was as important as their own lives.
  • ''I don't base my life around money,'' he solemnly said as he looked at her. "But money can sometimes be more important than one's life."
  • ''Fine. Keep it if you want to. Just do whatever. Now, come with me,'' She conceded before dragging him to a watch shop to buy a watch that cost thousands. Then, she pulled him into a phone shop where she bought him the latest iPhone.
  • ''Samantha Wembley, just what is your plan? I'm here to work, not to sell my body. So, why are you buying these things for me? Are you bored because you have money to burn? As I've clearly stated, I may be poor, but I'm not selling my body. I won't sell my soul,'' he finally couldn't hold his questions back any longer and dragged her aside to question her.
  • ''Sell your body? You?'' She didn't know if she should be crying or laughing at that accusation.
  • ''What about me?''
  • ''Do you think I want you to be some sugar baby? Ha, you think too highly of yourself.'' His wild imagination has rendered her speechless.
  • ''Why are you doing this then? You've bought me new clothes, a watch, and a new phone. The total cost of everything is at least several hundred thousand. I am no one to you. Why are you buying me these?''
  • ''As I've said, you need this for your job. From now on, whenever I call for you, you will meet me while wearing these. As for your actual job, you'll know soon. Don't worry. I'm not interested in you. After all, I'm not that thirsty. We'll now be heading in there for a haircut and a shave,'' she answered after a pause. Then, she dragged him into a salon.
  • Finally, with his new haircut, dressed from top to toe in expensive fashion pieces and a shiny watch, Chadwick looked like a successful member of society.
  • "Not bad. You fit the essential requirements now. Come, let's head back to the car," she commented after scanning him up and down. Then, she walked back to her car without saying another word.
  • ''Tell me, right now, what do you want me to do? Otherwise, I refuse to do anything, even if you threaten me with a lawsuit. Let me make it clear, I adamantly object to do anything illegal,'' he resolutely stated as he entered the car. After the entire shopping experience, he was feeling rather anxious. He had never heard of any employer who'd splurge on their employee before the job even started. So, he could think of no other explanation except for prostitution and crime.
  • ''What now? First, you think I'm trying to turn you into a sugar baby, and now you think I'm pulling you into some criminal activity.''
  • ''Aren't you? You're either a fool, or you think I'm one. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Have you ever seen an employer buy for their staff items worth hundreds of thousands without asking a question? Now, everything you bought is right here. I haven't touched a single thing,'' he warily said.
  • She shook her head in exasperation and exclaimed, "Fine! I'll tell you what your job is."
  • After several minutes of driving, Samantha pointed to a kindergarten that Chadwick could tell at a glance was a private school for the affluent and influential, then said, "Do you see that? My son studies in this international kindergarten. Your job is simple—be my son's father."
  • ''What? Be your son's daddy? Didn't you freaking hear me? I won't sell my body!'' he said as he glared at her.
  • ''You're overthinking it. You are to purely be my son's father. He's turning five this year. All this time, I told him his father wasn't around because he was too busy with work in Europe. He was easily fooled when he was a toddler, but as he grows older, it's getting harder to fool him. Additionally, he thinks the other kids in his school look down on him for not having a father. They keep bullying him to the point where he's slowly shutting himself off from the world. His teachers have talked to me about this. They say I must resolve this somehow, or his personality will be permanently affected and his future ruined. I have no choice but to find him a fake father,'' she slowly explained as she glared back at him.
  • Finally, after he was given information as to what was going on, he inquired. "Has he never seen his father before?" he asked.
  • ''He has not.''
  • ''And his father?''
  • As soon as the question left his lips, she shot him a sharp look and coldly stated, "As I've said, do not ask unnecessary questions."
  • If Chadwick had to be honest, he was pretty intimidated by Samantha. So, his jaw instantly snapped shut, and he went quiet. After a pause, he asked, "So you want me to go in there and lie to him that I'm his father, correct?"
  • ''That is certainly one way of putting it.''
  • ''I'm sorry, but I can't do this,'' he said as he started taking off his watch.
  • ''Why not?''
  • ''Don't you find it unethical for two adults to gang up and lie to a kid? I'm sorry, but I just can't do it.''
  • ''Tell me then. How am I going to magically find him a father? Do you know how bad it is for a child to have no father? I don't want him to be traumatized, and I absolutely do not want him to be depressed or a shut-in. I've asked therapists for help, and they say this will work. Yes, lying to kids is wrong, but we're doing it with good intentions. He's still young and immature. There's a limit on how much he can accept. Once he grows older, his personality is more stable, and his mind more logical, I'll come clean. I am his mother, and this is my only solution," Her eyes turned red-rimmed as she spoke.
  • The look on her face was enough to make his heart soften.
  • ''Also, we've signed a contract. You can quit now, but I will be suing you to make you pay the penalty. Not only that, but I bought you all of these things to prepare you for this job. Since you're terminating our contract early, you've created a loss for me. And so, you will also have to pay me back for that. In total, you will have to pay the fee for early termination and the cost for what I've spent on you today,'' Samantha coldly declared.
