Chapter 1261 The Turmoil of the Proposal (Part 3)
- The second he saw the knife, Chadwick Fullner went blank. Only one thought popped up: Screw this—has this crazy woman lost it? She actually pulled a knife. What the hell was she trying to do?
- Kate Penrose was basically out of her mind—jaw clenched, eyes red, locking onto Chadwick like he was her sworn enemy, and drove the blade straight at him. Chadwick had been pressed right up behind her. They were that close, and she struck out of nowhere. He didn’t even have time to dodge. The knife jabbed into his lower belly.
- It hurt for real—sharp, tearing pain. His eyes stung. He still couldn’t figure out how things had gotten to this point, but he almost wanted to praise Finn Wembley: the man took Kate’s situation dead seriously. Even the mascot suit he’d scrounged up was solid quality—not one of those cheap bulk buys, thick and dense. Plus Kate was nervous, her strength not all there, so even though the blade cut through the fabric, it never actually pierced Chadwick.
