• Chadwick Fullner didn’t hesitate. He picked the store where Keith Branwell worked for his inspection. Checking the store was one thing; another reason was that Keith had been helping take care of his dad recently. And when they bought Regal Peaks stock, Keith had stepped up with both money and effort. No matter what, Chadwick felt he owed him a thank-you dinner.
• Chadwick drove over in the heat and headed straight to the store. He hadn’t told anyone in advance, so the manager, Keith, and everyone else were surprised and on edge. The manager hurried to report every little detail about the place. Chadwick waved it off. “Relax. I’m just taking a look. Seeing what customers might want and what we can push.”
• The manager thought for a bit and shared a few things. Chadwick listened closely, but nothing sounded especially useful. He told the manager to get back to work and started observing on his own. It was still hot at that hour, so there weren’t many customers. The few who came mostly bought fruit.
