Chapter 65 The Catch And Release

  • He insisted. He had seen her eyes close as tears rolled down her delicate cheeks. He wondered why someone as talented as she wanted to give up her gift when she played so lovely, like an angel. She kept smiling at him like a kind person, making his heart pound harder and faster even though he didn't care too much for the classics as his parents had. However, he found the way she played the piano tonight soothing to his soul. Sometimes, the softest things on earth could calm the angriest beast of a person.
  • She took another sip from her glass, "Thank you," Bree smiled. Before the dinner, she had been relaxed, and she didn't feel overwhelmed for a brief moment. She could see that her guests, who were supposed to be friends of her family, were, in fact, foes, not allies. They wanted her to sell what was rightfully hers, and even though they didn't push the issue, she knew the subject was far from over. Her family's chateau was to be her haven, her own little castle filled with her family's history waiting to be discovered. One of the servants came and filled Bree's glass before leaving the Heiress and her guest alone.
  • Mikhail watched the young woman closely; he knew her family's secret and knew them very intimately, but this wasn't the time or place to speak to exactly what he knew. Not yet, anyway. For now, he was assessing her, making sure, in fact, she would be willing to hear what needed to be said or, like her father, would she turn away from her legacy.
