Chapter 19 Glass House

  • Isadora woke up and couldn't wait to speak with Gabriel. She had a lot on her mind before her near-death experience, things that she kept to herself. She wanted to get those hidden words out in the open and no longer wanted to keep Gabriel waiting. However, waking up, she realized she wasn't at the facility. She looked to see all around her there was snow, only the snow wasn't on the inside, but watching from her bed the snow building up outside. She quickly got out of bed and then touched the wall, which was some glass. She looked around, realizing she was in a dome-like building. Almost like a snow globe, only the snow was on the outside, and she was on the inside. Natalya saw that her things were in the room, neatly put away. There was a bathroom in the room. She left the bedroom and saw what was in the next room. It was a small but decent size kitchen, and then I went into the hallway to find another small space: living quarters with a library with many books and journals. She went to look for a door or a way out of this facility only to realize she was locked in. Natalya tried to beat on the glass to get out, but it was pointless. She had no idea where she was or how she got here. Pressing her forehead against the glass wall, she tried to stay calm. There was nothing here to tell her who her captors were or what they wanted. Wherever she was, she had a sinking feeling that no one she knew would know where she was. This was something she had never trained to handle or what to do in this situation. Natalya went through each room, searching for anything to tell her where she was or what was happening. Time passed so slowly, and still, she hadn't found anything of great importance, only that it wasn't populated wherever she was. She had been given manuals and other books teaching someone how to work on repairs, not to mention medical procedures, and then there were some books on survival and lectures. It was a library of preparing someone or anyone to be self-sufficient, though some of this she already knew. Each of the books she found had drawings and how-to-do things in steps. Natalya noted that there were no weapons inside this dome, but there were tools. She sat down to regroup and think of everything she had just learned about her environment, which was limited space built for one. No weapons or anything, but tons of information. She concluded that this place wasn't old and it wasn't done in a short amount of time. It was configured to be for an extended stay, and maybe she thought this was another test. Perhaps maybe to see how she could handle solitude and under pressure. Anything was possible, or another thought was that because of her attack, maybe she was isolated to ensure she wouldn't be a hazard to anyone. She went to look for the pipes or any wiring. Maybe she could learn more about her environment and thus finds a way to escape. After having a shower and fixing breakfast, she started drawing a layout of her new home. She detailed each room as much as possible as she continued learning about this place. The plumbing and wiring were exposed, so one of her thoughts had hit a brick wall. It wasn't over by a long shot, and she would find a way out of here; she accepted that she would be here for an extended stay.
  • Her next move was to see where the water was coming from, and she learned it was under the floorboards in the kitchen; she found a cellar that contained supplies, and the water was coming from underneath. However, the floor was rock hard, no way or prying open. Then she found wiring she could see transmitting information, so someone or others were watching her. Lasers were meant to go off of. She tried to peel away at the wall and saw that it was meant to protect whatever was behind there, which she made notes of to refer to later. Natalya reigned in her thoughts, not wanting them to run away; instead, she knew being logical would be her ally until she got to the bottom of things.
  • There was no way of her being able to tell what time it was. However, she couldn't tell where the sun was either. She wasn't tired when she went into the other room; there in the corner was a closet in the living quarters. She found a gym where she could do workouts, but it was limited. She could see the wind blowing, but none came through the glass. She pressed her forehead against the glass, wishing she was outside instead of trapped like a goldfish in a bowl. It was getting late though it wasn't dark outside, but then again, she knew something about illusions from her father, so thoughts of her being watched and that this whole thing was some farce also came to mind. She didn't feel like going to sleep because she thought if someone was watching, they were waiting for her to pass out so they could enter the room. She had her back to the wall though her eyes were darting all over the place; she hoped to see something out of place that she might have missed earlier.
