Chapter 6 A New Life

  • *****NEW CHAPTER****
  • Into the night, she kept on the move until sun light broke through the trees. She knew that his men were out there searching, though there was a part of her didn't want to get so far in case Caelan was out there trying to find her. However, she had to put some distance if she didn't want to get found so soon. It had been two days, and still she hadn't seen Caelan or Jett. She wondered if they had been capturred or killed, but something told her they were still alive. Again she heard the urgency in her head to keep on the move, though she was growing tired and already she could feel tired. She washed her face trying to regain some of her energy when she looked into the water. Her features had changed she almost looked human and when she turned she saw Caelan and Jett.
  • "You did this?"
  • "I have my talents, but your lynx she is more than just your protector. One minute we were in the woods and the next moment, we are here."
  • "Jett is good at teleporting, how I don't know but regardless, I was worried about the both of you."
  • She went over to hug him and to know that it was really him and it was. Jett rubbing herself against Isadora's leg until she too was picked up.
  • "What is the plan? We are on the run forever, that I already know."
  • "We leave for the Americas, there we can find some peace even for a moment." He pulled out her things from his bag, "Jett knew you were going to need somethings too. Something from the past."
  • "You know, we don't need to look like fighters or warriors, right?"
  • "I don't know if I would look good as a farmer, my dear."
  • "No, but as a sailor. You could blend in."
  • They continued to move and didn't stop till they were able to acquire other garbs, already she was feeling freedom. Something she hadn't had in such a long time, and even though they were on the run, she could feel almost like her old self. However looking down at her wrist she knew that it was the only reminder of her not fully being freed. He however had tried a few times to take it off, but the bond would not break. The next thing that was left to do was keep the ring and bracelet hidded. She didn't dress up like a warrior like she instead used her knowledge of staying hidden while he used his abilities to handle most of the travel arrangements. He used his abilities to get them on the ship without being revealed about who or what they were. The people on board were put in a trance, it was a way for them to keep their anonomity from being reported. He knew that Dagen had spies throughout the area for he had gotten the covens under one roof. When she finally was able to get some rest, he walked over to where she was and that was when he noticed something different. His hand placed on her belly while she slept, he realized why she had a change of heart. He could feel the movement within her, she was with child and that was when she opened her eyes as a tear rolled down her cheek. She hadn't the heart to tell him she didn't know if the baby was his or not but he leaned forward and kissed her belly. He had heard her thoughts, "Regardless, Isadora, regardless."
  • Deep down he knew it had to be his child, he didn't know how to explain it, but he knew the child was his. Regardless, they were away from Dagen and now together, as the ship crossed the water putting those who were searching as far away as possible. Many of the crew members didn't know where they were or far off course they were, but many of them remember didn't remember the last thing only that they felt dazed and confused. Caelan had gotten clothes for himself and for Isadora, were already off the boat and getting lost in the crowd. She had managed to eat a little something, though he did fed on the ship on one or two of the crew without killing them. Much had changed in the world, but thanks to his ability to see things through the blood of others, he was able to adapt and was able to get them a ride to the Northern territories, he came back with a smile.
  • "Looks like we are going up North to Alaska."
  • "What's in Alaska?"
  • "A way for us to blend in and not be easily to be found, you know hiding in plain sight."
  • "So what do we need to get?"
  • "As far away from here as possible. That crew will eventually realize where they are and at least of them will have marks on them that will let back home know where we might be."
  • "It is going to take them a while though, but yes you are right. Let's go."
  • Though he knew what her real identity was, the humans could only see a couple one of which was a tall man with a blonde hair woman, she didn't look like herself which was the idea. They continue through the city until they made to where the train station was. There they kept to themselves even though they were safe for now. It was still on their minds that Dagen had spies everywhere that it was better to be on guard then not. Though she was tired she managed to keep her eyes opened just in case they were ambushed. Once they had gotten off the train they were now taking a carriage ride to the country little town where they could get a plan together. It was a few more days ride but the little country town was simple, a bunch of farmers and a little school that was also a church. The children here were rushing to get to school for the small town folks saw the new arrivals. Towards the saloon, there was a sheriff office and bank and little stores and shops.
  • "Talk about sticking out like a sore thumb."
  • "Come on see if we can find a room and get cleaned up some."
  • On their way to the saloon the sheriff stopped them, "You two are new here, Welcome to Shady Grove. I am the Sheriff here, Sheriff Scott Clayton. You two looking for somewhere in particular?"
  • "Just somewhere to get something to eat and supplies."
  • "Your accent, you two from across the pond? Well, it doesn't matter. We don't have nothing here for either of you, so you might as well leave."
  • Caelan trying to be civil but Isadora grabbing his hand and tugging it. Though she didn't say anything, she could have clawed the man's face off. Instead, they began leaving town and not looking behind.
  • They were far enough that they were able to get out sight just in case the sheriff decided to send anyone to see if they truly left. Deep into the forest, she had managed to find some water and began washing herself off. Jett of course was off somewhere, probably checking her environment while Caelan jotting down notes in his book.
  • "Writing a story of how our journey is going so far?"
  • *****NEW CHAPTER****
  • "That would be a very short story. No, just making a few notes here."
  • She dunk her head under the water, it would soon be nightfall though it was a warm breeze coming through, she didn't want to get out of the water but she knew that it would soon be dinner. When they were in town she realized what the women were wearing and going through her bag she found what she was looking for and began working on her clothes. Though she was covered, she looked to see him watching her, "What?"
  • "Just thinking of when we were first journey together."
  • "Times have changed."
  • "Not so different."
  • She finished sewing and putting on the outfit she had fixed herself, it wasn't exactly something she would wear but at least now she wouldn't look out of place as bad. The fire crackle though she wasn't cold she couldn't help but shudder. It had been too long since she had been out in the wild like this, for too long she had a roof over her head but she didn't have her freedom. The bracelet and ring wouldn't come off and it was the one thing that could link her to the past.
  • "We will find a way to get that off, till then just gotta work around it."
  • "Do you really think we will manage to stay hidden long enough."
  • "We will manage, we will survive. It's time you find yourself again."
  • She went through her bag and picking out her blades she had thought had been left behind but she managed to put them on her back. Then pulling out her crossbow with a few bolts, it had been a long time since she had went hunting for her own meal and getting the feel of being out in the wild, starting to bring her some peace. "I guess we will travel up North by foot and then what?"
  • "Find our riches and maybe get our own spread and live like kings and queens."
  • She smiled, "I don't want to see another royal asshole for a very long time."
  • "What do you want then?"
  • "I left Romania because I wanted to find out who and what I was. I never did not even getting close, I may never find out what I am."
  • "Why are you so determined to find out what you are?"
  • "You know what and who you are? I don't know anything about myself, if I have any family or who my parents were, I am a nobody."
  • "You're not a nobody, you are a form of vampire that I do know."
  • "How do you know?"
  • "I was reading when we were in Africa, I did have some free time at times."
  • "You must have hated me for a while."
  • "I tried, but I couldn't. You did what you thought was right."
  • "I hurt you because I thought I would be doing you a favor, I just get myself more into trouble."
  • "I am not perfect either you know Isadora. I have a past something that doesn't easily go away. We are here now, we are together and we will face tomorrow together."
  • "My you are such a romantic."
  • He smiled for a moment but not too far they both looked at the same time. She put out the fire as her eyes glowed in the dark, just like a wild cat she could hear just as he did, there were men on horses going pretty fast. In the distance they heard what sounded like gun shots even though it had nothing to do with them. They managed to stay hidden, she wanted to get a closer look for the men on horses were heading to the town they had left earlier. However something in the wind told her these were not normal men. She could smell their scent and she knew what they were, lycans. Though the war amongst the creatures were supposed to be ended. They didn't know if Degan had allies or not, or better yet who were his allies and foes. Right as they were about to move Caelan stopped in his tracks as did Isadora who knew someone was right behind them, slowly they turned around to see for themselves not knowing who to expect until Jett came jumping out and behind her was Keane who held up his hands allowing them to see that he was unarmed.
  • *****NEW CHAPTER****
  • Caelan baffled, "What the hell are you doing here?"
  • "One minute I am in the woods checking the areas out as Dagen had requested next thing, I am here."
  • "He sent you here then?" Isadora exclaimed but Jett ran in front of Keane and stood on her hind legs as if protesting the vampire's innocence.
  • Isadora putting aside her blade then back at Keane, "Jett brought you here."
  • "Your lynx is what magic too? Dammit, I had to clean up some your both mess so that Dagen doesn't find you both as quick. The crew members I got the chance to visit thanks to Jett, they would have been your first mistake. They are now taking the longer way home. By the way, there is new invention it's called wiring, already word has spread to be looking for you two. He doesn't know I have left. So now you two won't look too suspicious."
  • "You don't even want to be here, why are you helping us now?"
  • "Jett brought me here, obvisiously she knows something that we don't. Come on before those lycans find you two here."
  • They followed Keane out of the area, then over to where Jett had brought him earlier. He tossed them both some clothes that were more for where they were going. "I didn't want to be a part of this but Caelan brought me into this the moment someone said they saw you and I talking before you vanished. Right before I was taken in Jett here came whooshed me away. Of course the ones who tried to bring me in didn't get very far, did you know your lynx is a freaking beast?"
  • Jett who was now laying in Isadora's lap with her eyes closed as if she didn't know what Keane was talking about. Isadora smiled, "She has been with me ever since I was an infant. I believe she is way older than what she appears to be, but I don't know anything more than that."
  • "It was a good thing that Dagen never truly knew about your feline friend here. So I am assuming you two are here because you will be heading up North maybe to Alaska?"
  • "Something like that."
  • "Caelan, you disappoint me, seriously. Look it was a good thing that I did came then."
  • "Wait if Dagen sent you to do rounds, why were they coming after you?"
  • "It was a trap, just like sending Caelan to Dracul's army was a set up. He believes at this moment, I am getting tortured trying to find out what Caelan and I were talking about."
  • "He was going to send you to Dracul's army?"
  • "Yes, he thought we shouldn't be around each other anymore. He had caught us looking at one another for a while and when I didn't leave, he was going to take care of me the night you didn't come back."
  • "Alaska is out of the question, already patrols are being set up as we speak. He wants your head and now mine as soon as he learns that I escaped his trap. Her braclet is still on, that's fucking great. Have either you tried to get that fucking thing off yet?"
  • "Yes, we have tried but it won't come off."
  • "Keep the jewel covered, it's like a tracer. Once he gets the jeweler he will be able to track you. As long as the jewel is covered, it should disrupt the signal."
  • "You think we can find someone who can remove it?" Caelan asked taking a thicker leather strap wrapping it around her wrist while she too was waiting for a response.
  • "Thees bracelets are no longer made, I have no idea. I just know that covering the stone blinds the one from spying. Only the one can remove the bracelet and we all know he won't do it."
  • "Especially since he had never allowed me to hunt for the one who had cursed his sister."
  • Keana looked at her then at Caelan, "You think someone outside of his family would curse Yvette?"
  • "That's what I saw that night. The symbol of one being cursed."
  • Keane looked at Caelan and finally Caelan told her what they had learned some time ago, "Yvette was cursed by her own free will."
  • "How did either of you know that?"
  • "We were there when she performed the ritual. She didn't know that it was going to kill her, that was the part she had learned afterward. They wanted a way to get the vampire court under their thumb, controlling the court meant they would be able to unlock the secrets of the past. Hence finding you, you are a type of vampire, one that drains energy. However, in order to find the location they needed one to control. She became a strega to find you because that was what they were told. Your kind is used to find demons and dark powers, much like a shark following blood in the water."
  • "You knew this the entire time?" She grit her teeth together at the both of them angry that she had been fooled for so long.
  • Keane stepped in before she went nuts on the both of them, "It wasn't like that. We were soldiers under orders searching for this temple. We didn't know anything about you, Caelan wasn't told anything about you other than your real name. There were only a few of us to witness the transformation, Yvette personal guards. Once you were located, Dagen sent Caelan to find you because it was revealed you were the only one that could remove the curse. However, the longer she stayed with the curse the more permenant it becomes where only death is the only way to set her soul free. Dagen had convinced her since their mother had taught Yvette about magic and runes, he used his sister like he used you. The stone in that bracelet was a way of controlling you, by harnessing you by your powers. It's slowly draining you so that you are not as strong as you were when you wasn't wearing it. That part Caelan didn't know. His only job was to find you and bring you back, the fact that Yvette had done the ritual we thought by the time you came you would be able to free her. None of us thought she would have to die. Dagen however knew his sister's fate and used your feelings of never killing an innocent against you. When we were in Africa he was searching for the temples without you knowing it but because the risk of releasing you stopped him from continuing the search."
  • *****NEW CHAPTER****
  • "Then why don't we go back to Africa?"
  • "Hello, you two ran away from Dagen, you think we are going to be able to get near there? No. He is going to have that place swarmed and until we find a way to break that bracelet you are not as strong as you once were. Oh I almost forgot, you are also pregnant meaning you can put your unborn baby on the line to find your past or are you going to risk it. But wait, there is more still after the baby is born, maybe by then, the heat will have cool down, and maybe by then we can be able to get to Africa. Oh wait, we still have another problem!" Keane said with anger though he wasn't yelling at her or at Caelan he was however saying everything in a low voice, "How the fuck are we going to Africa, when neither of us were ever there to exactly learn where to look. Africa is only a big fucking place!"
  • They quickly changed into the clothes that Keane brought, and were moving through the water way as the night came and went. No one saying anything as they crossed through the thickets then further into the wilderness. Keane had brought more then enough besides money he had also brought better weapons and supplies. Thanks to Jett, Keane was able to get more than what Caelan was able to get because Keane wasn't as rushed as Caelan had been under the circumstances. Isadora was very much pissed at the two of them, especially at Caelan but under the circumstance how did he know they were going to be lovers? He didn't. She was angry and she needed someone to be angry at and it was on Caelan, for he knew more than he had lead on and second, she should have known better than to ignore her senses. Everything made sense now, why she was tired and why she had stopped being herself for so long. Learning a small part of what she was, was somewhat comforting but it wasn't how she wanted to learn. Crossing over into the Northern territory, though they were not going to Alaska they were however traveling where there wasn't a lot of humans. The creatures regardless of not attacking humans like once upon a time, still depended on humans to survive. Just as they did, but luckily both Keane and Caelan could survive on animals though animals wasn't exactly appealing as human blood, it was still sustain them. However, Isadora had to feed off humans but not until a hunter's moon.
  • "I'm sorry. I wished I never did find you. You wouldn't have been in this mess."
  • "I don't want to talk about it right now."
  • They were picking up speed, leaping over the and trudging through the water, this was how they were losing their scent so that they wouldn't be followed, for the time being.
  • It had been a few days, they were finally able to stop, though they were in the middle of nowhere they were far enough that even she could feel the cold.
  • "Now what?"
  • "I swear both of you are older than dirt but still wet behind the ears. We set up a homefront. We are not that far from a water source, but far enough humans won't be coming up here so creatures won't be as many. Welcome home."
  • "Is that more land going further North?"
  • "Yes, but we are not going that way. This far North we are going. Besides, we can survive here and when it's time for us to hunt we can easily hunt day or night. However, humans hopefully they won't be too far away. Let's get out hands dirty."
  • They quickly worked the area as their new home, because they were immortal they didn't need tools like humans required the need. However, they did manage to construct a sturdy home. Considering Caelan and Keane were from a time that required them to build like the olden days, she however didn't have to build a home for she was able to find abandoned buildings. She however did her part by fixing the roof for the home, then setting up traps. Every so often, both of vampires went on the hunt while she was able to eat whatever she trapped. When it came closer to the Hunter's moon, she would venture out lurking around finding only what she would need to survive. When the winter storms hit, they were already prepared but it was one night that she woke up in a lot of pain.
  • *****NEW CHAPTER****
  • She walked across to the other room where Caelan was keeping watch when she came over to the door, "It's time!" He grabbed the bowl and quickly going outside for some snow and then boiling the water. Keane having no idea what to do, while Caelan scrambled to helping Isadora who was trying to stay calm through the whole situation. Caelan remembering his mother helping his older sister from a long time ago, and he had to help because at the time he was old enough but not yet old enough to go hunting with the men. Jett came in though she wasn't any help, Isadora however used her lynx to keep eye contact as the pain from the contractions were getting more intense. Caelan would soon find out if he was right or wrong, whether the infant was his or Dagen. Regardless, he was going to be here at her side to protect her and the infant when Isadora clenched her teeth as her eyes were fiercely on fire and with another push, Isadora could finally breath again hearing the sounds of her baby crying. Caelan quickly cleaning the baby and learning that this was in fact his child. A little girl whose eyes were like his own, light brown gemstones though her hair was faint he could see she was going to be very blonde like him. He placed the infant onto Isadora chest, who was tired but smiling as well. For she could see that her daughter was Caelan's daughter and not like she had feared through her pregnancy. Once the baby fed and was clean and warm, Jett snuggled close while the little girl slept. Isadora having to drink some of Caelan's blood in order for her to mend, she was asleep while Caelan and Keane were wide awake.
  • "How did you learn to play nurse maid?"
  • "I was one of six children, one older brother and the rest were all girls. I hated it back then, but I did learn so it came in use afterall."
  • "So you're a father or is the kid..."
  • "The baby girl is mine, her hair is more blonde almost like my mothers' hair."
  • Keane turned to see that Isadora's bracelet was no longer covered and he quickly wrapped up her arm and cussing under his breath.
  • "Looks like we are leaving at first light."
  • "We can't with the newborn."
  • "Her bracelet was uncovered, it is a risk that you really want to take? I wouldn't."
  • She was awaken when she learned that the bracelet had been uncovered, "We will leave at first light."
  • "Are you sure?" Caelan asked concerned for their child and for her as well.
  • "I am going to need to feed in order to keep her fed."
  • "There is no Hunter's moon though."
  • Keane understanding why, "She lost a lot of her energy when she had the baby, she is going to need fill up her tank regardless of the hunter's moon or not. With that bracelet on her, her energy is going to drain because of the bracelet and now the baby."
