Chapter 54 Meeting The Family

• Then she saw his outfit, which reminded her of a pirate or sea captain dressed in his best attire. It was a Renaissance Victorian embroidered long-sleeve jacket, which matched the colors of her dress. His pants were strapping and would make any woman's heart beat a mile a minute. His leather Cavalier boots came up to his knees, and the hat completed his 17th-century pirate look, which made him look quite dashing, and his eyes were even a darker shade of emeralds.
• Bianca spent the day reading some books, waiting for Gerrit to return downstairs. Today was one of a few days that Gerrit paid tribute to his past. Even though he would rather not remember some of his past, every year about this time, he kept the tradition of remembering his family members or ceremonial traditions. There were times like today when he kept silent and spoke in his ancient tongue; she could only guess he was remembering those who had fallen in battle. Bianca didn't understand most of what he spoke or why he did it, but she knew Gerrit was a man of many layers, and honoring his family was essential to him. As much as she wanted to know all of his secrets, she would never comprehend some things because she wasn't from his era, which was okay because at least he had his memories whereas her memories had her memories wiped clean. She loved him for who he was and would love him till the end of time. As another hour passed, Gerrit finally came down. It was still a couple of hours before midnight; Gerrit had a distant look on his face. She placed her hand on his arm, "I'm sorry."
• He smiled with some grim blended in, "Don't be. It happened a long time ago, way before you were born. He paused for a moment. "And those I had lost over the centuries. We must remember where we come from, even if our past is painful, so we can appreciate where we are now."
