Chapter 11 The Lion Comes Out To Play

  • At least, Dracul thought that would have been the case, for he and his brother did share a few things in common. One was how to make someone or anyone pay dearly—living in the shadows, being buried alive, being kept in the darkness as a dirty little secret. There would be no way of escaping, but every day he preassumed his brother wanted Dracul to lose hope. Which was the best way to make an immortal pay, and anything less would be considered a weakness. Nat went back upstairs after some time had passed while others were torturing the captives to find out more information. She only wanted to hear from the one she had prevented from killing himself. He wouldn't be tortured until the next day; they worked the others over, ensuring nothing was missed. Others in the castle were going over the ruins and the damage that had been done. Everything appeared to be fixed though some of the damages would take some time; she would later learn that some innocent villagers could return home. Later, they will rebuild and make their homes and communities more vital than before. Others had fled, fearing they would choose to be Dagen's puppets or be slaughtered for refusing to join his legion. Many creatures just wanted to blend in and try to live in peace. However, that wasn't the case. Even though human officials were paid off, not to mention being in fear for their lives, so they played along to get along. Pretending what was going on wasn't happening at all. Dracul would be repairing these relationships because he had promised long ago that those of his lines would be under his protection. He wouldn't let his word be broken, and now that he was back, he would never allow himself to fail his people again. Natalya said she wouldn't torture anyone; however, after draining two creatures because the others were trying to be strong and not speak, she saw their comrades drained of their life, so that was all she needed to do. She went up to the balcony to have a drink watching while everyone was staying busy. She didn't want to be here and would have been on another mission when she heard someone coming into the room. It was Dracul, his clothes stained from blood though they stayed their distance from each other. It was the best thing while they had to work with each other; both had a cause they needed to see the end, so for now, they tolerated the other until it was time to go their separate ways.
  • "So, you don't feed on humans at all?"
  • "I have, but their blood never seems to be filling. Feeding on the creatures appears to satisfy my hunger. However, because my siblings and I are a rarity, we don't know our limitations and so on."
