Chapter 61 The Curse

  • Dawn Greenwood was driving to her boyfriend’s house right after she had finished her interview. Tonight, they had plans to go out for dinner and catch up since she had been in school. It had almost been a year since she had been this way, but she hadn’t heard from anyone in the last few months. She had been worried about her family, but she figured that between the farm and running the factory, her family was doing everything they could to send her to school, which was overseas. She had been accepted at one of the prestigious schools, which was a sacrifice her family was willing to make. She and her boyfriend had put off getting married right after high school so that she could get her degree. He had enlisted over a year ago, but they had kept in touch. She hoped that he still wanted to get married because now that she had her degree, it wouldn’t take her long to find work anywhere. She switched lanes onto the country road, where she would turn to get to the small town. However, much to her surprise, there were military trucks and people in hazmat suits everywhere. Up ahead, she could see why they were there. Some were very huge and glowing, blocking everyone from going any further. Smoke formed around the dome as the military and scientists gathered data from this area. One of the soldiers came to her window and signaled her to turn around. Instead, she pushed the button as the window slid down, “I live in that town.”
  • “Ma’am, I am under orders to direct traffic from here. You cannot stay here.”
  • “What about my family? Here is my address. What is going on?”
