• They spent the next few days together, practicing sword fighting when he wasn't helping her on the ranch. Though it had been a long time since he had ever had to fight with a sword, he still managed to practice daily, keeping his skills honed. They practiced first with wooden swords, though the first few days she was sore, but she was a quick learner. Soon, her animals were on the ranch, which kept her busy whenever Bram was working. The last few weeks, they had spent time that he thought about the past, comparing the life that he had now to when he thought after losing Meredith, he had lost everything. He knew that the secret he had been hiding from Bianca would soon have to be exposed; otherwise, everything that they had was built on lies. Their connection was undeniable. The one day they were fighting on the fallen log, it was to help her learn balance and watch her footing; she had been afraid because of how many times she had been injured; beneath them, there was nothing to break her fall. "Keep your eyes on me, Bianca. I will not let anything happen to you, trust me." Sweat beads trickled down the side of her head, even though she was afraid her eyes focused in on his emerald green eyes. She only closed her eyes long enough to take a deep breath and then move towards him, not looking down but focusing on everything he had been teaching her when their swords clashed. She had her feet planted as he had shown her, and then she looked to see him smiling, "Well done."
• She smiled back up at him, trying to catch her breath, feeling more alive than she had in years. "Thank you."
