Chapter 48 The Hotspot

  • Even though the moon was out, it was still very dark outside. Bianca hadn't been to her sanctuary because it was busy, considering she had completed several jobs and then had to do some reading before going inside to drink her mixture of wine and blood. She hadn't heard from Gerrit today, but because of unexpected news, she knew he had a job to do. While watching the fire, she thought about going to the movies; it had been a while since she had seen a movie at a drive-in. There were not many out there, but the few still operating hadn't been converted into supermarkets or churches. Even when there wasn't a new release, they played old classics on weekends. Bianca decided tonight would be the night she went to one. She grabbed her car keys off the coffee table and drove towards the closest one. Of course, it was in another county, but she didn't mind driving a little farther to see a movie. It would be late before Gerrit was home and still early. Bianca quickly went upstairs and changed into her black pair of pants and indigo sweater; once her boots were on, she was out the door and in the jeep. It wasn't yet an hour when she reached the drive-in movies. She didn't care for food, but she did enjoy a soda from time to time. It was supposed to be a scary movie that was playing tonight. It wasn't the weekend yet, but a good amount of people were out watching the thriller on the giant screen. There were a few scenes where she could hear younger girls screaming, but the movie didn't really bother her too much. It was a zombie movie, which was a remake of the original 1960's version, and it followed the same storyline, but the ending was different from the original version. Once the movie was over, it was barely ten. She drove to the bar that was down the road, which she had passed coming out here. She knew Gerrit told her to stay in tonight, but she couldn't help it. She was restless as she set up the pool table, then played alone and had a beer before someone approached her. The guy wasn't half bad looking, probably around six feet, with curly black hair and light blue-gray eyes she had ever seen. The guy was athletic and probably a veteran like herself; he had a smile that was meant to be charming. However, she was married, and he wasn't her type, even if she was single.
  • "Yes?" She inquired.
  • "Are you playing by yourself?" He asked.
