Chapter 30 Getting Closer

  • He missed her full lips on his, and he would have never thought a kiss could stir so much in him. It had been too many years since he had felt a soft touch. He pulled the blanket over her, then looked to where she had been working earlier. He knew what he could do even if she didn't ask him to. He went out to the fencing where she had been where she had gotten injured and finished up the work in less time than three humans doing the job. He could see where she had marked each of the spots that needed to be repaired. He worked the next couple of hours finishing the fencing that would have taken her a lot longer than a couple of days, especially after getting injured. The next morning, Bianca groaned as she woke up, trying to remember what happened, but every time she thought back, her head pounded. Her stomach turned, and she knew she was going to vomit. Quickly, she made it to the bathroom and held on until there was nothing left. She looked at herself in the mirror, then saw the iron and then the stitches as memories of her incident came back. Maybe she should sell this ranch because she didn't want to admit it, but maybe she was in over her head. However, looking at her amber eyes, she saw her mother at her last rodeo. Her mother had gotten injured but won the championship, and she heard her mother's words ringing in her ears: you never give up regardless of the giants you face. You stick to your guns, baby girl. With newfound determination, she rinsed her mouth out and cleaned up.

  • He didn't go home, catching a nap on the couch, when he heard her rushing to the bathroom and heard her saying hello to Ralph. He had finished the fencing but stayed because he didn't know why he stayed. Maybe he ought to leave; he didn't need to get any more attached than what he was already, but too late, she had seen him. "I guess you fixed up last night?" He nodded, though his emerald eyes were watching her without shying away. She turned away, "You must think I am hopeless being out here on my own. More trouble than what I'm worth, right? I should probably sell this place and go back to...."
