Chapter 94

• I didn't pause to see if the demon was still standing there, watching me. I kept my gaze forward, fixed on the palace. Guards were fighting the thorns ahead of me. There must have been fifty guards wielding axes and chainsaws, hacking their way through the black briars and carving an escape tunnel out of the palace. I could see vampires running out of the tunnel, their clothes ripped and tattered, covered in blood and soot, into the relative safety of the palace grounds. They thanked the guards and took in the devastation of the palace grounds, relieved and exhausted.
• I ran past them, disregarding the guards' warnings not to go inside the palace. I dashed through the tunnel, arriving at a small wooden door just as a pair of vampires exited.
• "Don't go in there," warned one of them. "Prince Luc is insane!"
