• The lights in the room flickered in anticipation of Luc's arrival. The doctor and nurses remained silent, sensing something was wrong, while Louis waited for his brother to arrive. This was the calm before the storm. This was the quiet buildup to the violence I expected to see when Luc burst through the bedroom door to defend me.
• As the footsteps got closer, I held my breath and felt my heart stop when the door softly opened. That gentle motion caught me off guard- did Luc not hear me yell his name? Why wasn't he kicking the damn door off its hinges, fighting for me?
• Luc walked in as the door opened. Luc didn't rush in or burst in like I expected; instead, he walked in and gave me a filthy look before snapping, "What the hell are you yelling bloody murder for?"
