Chapter 61

  • I was fighting the darkness as well as my own fear. I needed to assist Nico while also resting. My body was weak from exhaustion, tired from my restless sleep the night before, and traumatized by the events of the evening. I struggled to keep my arm raised, but I was determined not to let Luc kill Nico.

  • My finger rested lightly on the trigger, and I fired a warning shot with the gun pointed slightly off-center. Soldiers rushed up behind Luc, but he quickly waved them off. They took a step back, allowing him to deal with the situation. I returned the gun's barrel to the center of his chest and waited quietly to see what he would do.
