Chapter 30
- My heart was pounding in my chest. I sat like a wooden marionette on Jacques lap, completely still but screaming on the inside. The world was collapsing around me, and I thought I was going insane. Jacques waited patiently for an explanation, and when none came, he gathered my fingers in his hands and brought them to his lips. As Jacques gently blew a warm breath across my hands, an involuntary shiver ran down my spine. He was being so patient and tender that my heart almost melted.
- "What makes you so scared of Mia?" Jacques inquired softly.
- "Nothing, I was being silly," I replied, lowering my gaze.
