Chapter 26
- The ride back to the apartment was peaceful. I pretended to be asleep for the majority of the drive so no one could ask me what had really happened in my bedroom and how Laura's arm had broken. I opened my eyes occasionally in the car, and when I did, I noticed Nico and Jacques, who were sitting in the front, exchanging suspicious glances.
- They were aware that something was wrong.
- The sickness I was experiencing in my stomach was killing me. I felt like I was walking across a perilous ravine on a tightrope, where one gust of wind could knock me sideways and send me tumbling to my death. I shivered as I drew my knees up into my chest.
