Chapter 31

• Nico and I argued the entire way back to the apartment. I struggled and writhed in his arms, desperately trying to get back to Jacques, who was being beaten mercilessly by Luc. I could hear dull thumping sounds and the occasional faint groan of a man in pain echoing up the stairs.
• Nico had become impatient halfway up the stairs and had flipped me over his shoulder. Nico ignored my screams and protests. He jogged up the stairs and hurled me through the apartment doorway and onto the cold marble floor, where I landed with a thud.
• My blood was boiling at this point. "Luc is going to kill him!" I yelled as I glared furiously at Nico.
