• We stopped by my dorm to pick up Nelly, and on the way I explained what was happening. “Mal and Tom are treating us to lunch,” I said, smiling. “They feel bad about what happened between me and Kenneth.”
• Katty and Nelly exchanged curious glances, but neither argued. By the time we reached the restaurant, the tension had melted into laughter. Over plates of sizzling noodles and fragrant rice, we talked, teased, and laughed as if no storm had ever shadowed our lives.
