• The mind-link hit with a force that made the hairs on the back of my neck rise. It wasn’t a gentle nudge—this was a full summoning, sharp and urgent, ordering every royal, warrior, and Beta-ranked lion to the conference hall immediately. I froze midway through signing a stack of documents that had been cluttering my desk like they had taken permanent residence there. Ever since the fake king started his nonsense, paperwork had doubled. Maybe tripled.
• I pushed back my chair and stood, rolling my shoulders. I had already delegated what I could: Thomas handling administrative approvals and Malcolm overseeing security. Thankfully, the new surveillance equipment had arrived just in time. The IT team had spent the entire night discreetly bugging phones across the kingdom. They were excellent—silent, invisible, a shadow inside the network. We had to be careful. It would be catastrophic if the imposter king caught even the smallest wind of what we were preparing.
