• We followed the car based on the description from our mole. He told us he’d seen the girl—our target—leaving the pride territory, accompanied by the soon-to-be Third-in-Command, who had a reputation for being vicious. We thought we were being cautious enough. I kept the headlights dimmed. Thankfully, lion vision made it easy to see even in low light.
• Roughly five miles from the territory, just entering No Man’s Land, the car in front came to a halt.
