• I hadn’t had time to ask Leo or Aunt Maggie what had happened with the dark witch. I could only hope that King Pontione had handled it completely. Whatever the outcome, I trusted him. He had that calm, controlled tone when he left, the kind he used only when he knew exactly what needed to be done.
• Now we were all gathered in the waiting area, our small group filled with quiet tension. We were waiting for King Pontione and Aunt Margaret to return, along with Priest Mayi, who had gone ahead to speak with the former King and Kenneth Snr about our arrival. Aunt Malena was staying behind to hold the fort, while her mate would travel with us to help scout for any other witches, wizards, or magicians that Donald might have been using. He wanted to neutralize any magical threats before they had a chance to intervene.
