Chapter 144 The War 2

  • Lucy’s POV
  • I was able to connect with Ken through Zeus’ mind without disturbing their focus, slipping into that shared mental space as carefully as one might step onto thin ice. The battlefield demanded absolute concentration. One stray distraction, one mistimed thought, and lives could be lost. 'I think we can use our powers to reveal the landmines,' I sent to him steadily, 'and even cause them to explode safely underground without causing harm to anyone.' I held my breath as I waited for his response, acutely aware that Lira and Zeus were still scanning ahead, their senses stretched to their limits.
  • We exchanged those words without slowing down, without breaking stride, without alerting the others. Lira and Zeus remained fully alert, sweeping the terrain for hidden threats, for traps layered beneath traps. That vigilance alone slowed our progress, but none of us dared complain. On a battlefield—especially one orchestrated by a traitor like Bratton—complacency was an invitation to death. There was no such thing as having things under control. There was only survival, second by second.
