- "Come on, Lane, you have to do much better! You're weak! Run! You're not cut out for this! Quit!" Piper shouted at me while holding a whistle in her hand.
- She was annoying. Damn, I don't want to be here with her anymore. As I finished running fifty laps around the huge field, I dropped to my knees on the grass, tired and thirsty. And I kept thinking that this wasn't for me. Maybe Piper was right, maybe I was weak.
- What good would having endurance do for me? Oh, right, if I were ever chased by an enemy. I had spent most of the morning enduring Piper's shouts and the tough training. I did eighty push-ups and a hundred squats. I was dead tired.
