Chapter 189
- In the distance, the sound of a cell phone can be heard, distant and vague. I squint my eyes and pull the sheet over me, covering myself from head to toe, as a light coming from the window bothers my eyes. I recognize that sound: it's the phone in the apartment. It rings and rings until the answering machine picks up and I can find out who was calling:
- "Kenzie! Answer that phone for God's sake," Carolina says, "I'll pick you up in a few minutes so I want you to be ready. We're going on a picnic, Kayler told me there will be more people there. Move!"
- She hung up.
