Chapter 89

  • I lifted the tape, ducking beneath it and making my way to the rest of the kitchen volunteers, a large basket in my hand. We were at the pack center and Julia had closed off an area with a tape so no one would get past it. We were preparing lunch for the workers setting up the pack center for Dante and Bianca's mating ceremony. The expansive space was already bustling with activity. People were scurrying through, arranging chairs, stringing up lights and adjusting floral arrangements. The ceremony was still days away, but since it was going to be a major event, the council had decided that preparations begin as soon as possible.
  • The council members were walking around, instructing the workers on where to put what. A few warriors were moving around, carrying tables and tents that were needed as part of the setup. Julia had divided us, bringing a few of us out here to prepare lunch for all the workers, while the rest of the volunteers stayed back at the orphanage. Fortunately, Cora and I hadn't been separated so I still had her with me. I placed the basket containing the last of the ingredients for the chicken salad on the long table, meeting Cora's eyes.
