• Julie had given me another day off.
• She'd called me into her office after I finished with work the previous day, letting me know I didn't need to turn in for work today. I'd happily accepted, so here I was, putting on an oversized shirt as I prepared to help Louisa with cleaning the house. She showed up just a few minutes after I'd brought all the cleaning supplies out from the storeroom. "Hey," I greeted heartily. She was easily becoming one of my favorite persons in the pack, together with Cora and Julie. I managed a small smile as she stepped forward and cupped my cheek affectionately. She didn't mean any harm, but I was still weirded out by the gesture. I wasn't used to people pretending to care, not to mention actually caring.
