- Her shrug was the answer we all needed, but she tried to give us a little hope. She tucked a stray strand of her platinum blonde hair, drawing her eyebrows together. "I can't promise that it would hold all the answers," She began carefully. "But I could also reach out to a few seers and hear what they have to say. Someone might know something." Dante's eyes lifted to mine then, and I had the feeling he'd just remembered someone who might be willing to help. There was a sliver of hope in his eyes, and I fed off it. Dear goddess, did I feed off it? I was still scared out of my mind but having Dante here with me, it helped me a great deal.
- I swallowed hard, shifting on my feet. “Lila," I began, my voice barely above a whisper, "I need to ask you something. About... about my fur. The color change. Is it... am I dying?” The words tumbled out faster than I meant for them to, a knot of anxiety twisting my stomach. The fur change had been the biggest shock I'd received in a while. My coat, once a deep, healthy shade of brown, had transformed into something silvery. Something as pale as moonlight. A color I had never seen on any wolf in the pack. A look of pain crossed Dante's expression, like my question was a hard pill for him to swallow. Lila's gaze softened, her lips curling into a faint sad smile.
