Chapter 40
- *Dante*
- I arrived at the house a few hours later, walking right to Isabel's room. I told myself it was only to see what she was up to but the truth lay buried deep inside; I couldn't deal with how much I wanted to lay my eyes on her. I opened the door noiselessly, but barely, taking a peek through the crack between the door and the door still. She was sitting by the window, her eyes focused on a blank spot. I didn’t knock, just stepped in. Her head turned up as soon as she sensed me. Her eyes met mine. "You’re meeting the council today." I informed her. "Get ready."
- I waited for her sassy retort, but it never came. She just moved her attention back to the window, waiting for me to leave the room. For some reason her silent dismissal irked me. I was still reeling from the irritation I'd felt when she'd moved my hand away from her earlier. I clenched my jaws, slamming the door shut. I returned to the guest room a few minutes after I'd received a text from Henry letting me know they had gathered in the conference room. Isabel had changed into a black dress that stopped mid thigh with her hair brushed back. She still had her nose ring on, and her lips looked like she'd applied something on them.
