  • I hesitated for a fraction of a second before stepping inside, the scent of him wrapping around me like an intoxicating blanket. Everything about this space was so distinctly his: clean, orderly, put together. He didn’t say a word as he walked to his dresser, pulling out a small tool that gleamed in the dim light. My eyes widened when he knelt in front of me, his hands reaching for my ankle. I flinched instinctively, but his touch was gentle as he reached for my ankle again, steadying it against the floor.
  • His eyes lifted then and locked onto mine. I could have sworn I could literally see the air crackling between us. The cool metal of the allen wrench caught my attention as he began to work on the monitor clasped around my skin. My eyes widened in disbelief as I stared down at the back of his head. Was he letting me go? The soft click of the device unlocking echoed in the quiet room. I stared at him as he pulled the monitor away and set it on the floor, my heart pounding for reasons I couldn’t explain. "You're taking it off?" I inquired, my voice coming out in a soft whisper.
