Chapter 13 A Good Dog Doesn’t Stand in Someone’s Way

  • Eliza spent the night trying hard to please Cody shamelessly.
  • In the end, however, he was called away by a phone call. Not getting the answer she wanted, Eliza was speechless with rage.
  • Yet Louie called her to rub salt into the wound. “My lady, tomorrow will be the press conference. Have you settled the matter with President Brooks yet? You’ll lose the role once the cast is finalized tomorrow!”
  • “I don’t want the role anymore,” Eliza yelled in a sulk before hanging up the phone directly.
  • Louie was left speechless.
  • This was probably the first time she faced so many difficulties since she entered the entertainment industry five years ago.
  • This was all thanks to Cody.
  • Perhaps Louie is right. I’m a nobody in this industry without Cody.
  • Eliza laughed at herself and lay sleepless until dawn.
  • Wearing her hair in a simple bun, Eliza showed up at the press conference the next day wearing a simple black tight skirt, a pair of white high-heel shoes, and accessories of the same color.
  • She kept a low profile, but her presence alone was enough to make the fans outside scream.
  • This was Eliza; she was so charismatic that she could forcibly eclipse everyone around her without needing anything to set off her beauty.
  • “How did you offend President Brooks lately?!” Louie asked her between clenched teeth. “Just look at how smug Reese is; she came with President Brooks again. The decision must have been made on who will be the lead actress!”
  • “I see,” Eliza responded perfunctorily. “I’m going to the restroom.”
  • Louie was speechless with exasperation. “Eliza, can you work a little harder?”
  • “I need President Brooks to back me up even if I work hard!” retorted Eliza flatly.
  • Louie decided to shut up.
  • What he hated the most was how Eliza went all out to anger him when she opposed him.
  • However, Eliza had left before he could say a few words.
  • Eliza really wanted to leave this place after coming out of the restroom, for she couldn’t stand the sight of Reese showing off in front of her.
  • In the end, God’s plans superseded her own.
  • Reese had stood in front of her smugly before she could leave.
  • “Is there anything?” She struck the first blow. “Please make way for me if you have nothing to talk to me about. A good dog doesn’t stand in someone’s way.”
  • “You…” Reese’s delicate facial features were almost distorted. “You’re so shameless, Eliza! How could you have the cheek to show up at the press conference when you don’t even have a supportive role in the film! Are you here to ride on the wave of the film’s popularity?”
  • Eliza wasn’t angered at all. Instead, she winked at Reese. “How could you be so certain that I won’t land a role, Miss Watson?”
  • Reese was speechless.
  • Her hands clenched tightly into fists as she glared at Eliza’s calm expression.
  • She had appeared alongside Cody on almost every occasion these days, but he never gave in to her seduction no matter what tricks she pulled.
  • She couldn’t even get into Cody’s bed, let alone influence his decision.
  • Besides, although it had been rumored before that she would play the heroine, Tyler Simpson, the director, had spoken about his preference for Eliza.
  • Moreover, Eliza’s resources over the past few years were so good that she could end up being cast easily in female lead roles that had initially been given to someone else.
  • Therefore, it would be impossible for Reese not to be nervous.
  • Knowing that she had provoked Reese, Eliza let out a sneer and walked out of the restroom. She didn’t give a d*mn about such a role.
  • The instant she walked out of the restroom, she saw the tall figure of Cody, who had his hands in his pockets.
  • She raised her brow and asked without turning a hair, “Mr. Brooks, are you here to look for Miss Watson?”
  • Reese came out right after that. Upon seeing Cody, she looked delighted; after trotting up to him with quick, short steps, she held his arm.
