Chapter 63 A Blank Cheque

  • “I don’t want you to remember me as a crazy woman. Isn’t it better if we only hold onto the good memories that we’ve made so far?” Eliza’s tone of voice gradually switched from a serious one to her usual lighthearted one. She got onto her tiptoes as she kissed the corner of the man’s lips. “It makes me feel like you’re in love with me if you do this, Mr. Brooks. I’d overthink it and end up showing off in front of Miss Oakley.” She rubbed her body against his once she finished speaking. Now, she was no longer that untroubled and carefree girl that didn’t have her guard up—Eliza had resumed her act of being a pretentious woman once again.
  • “Uh-huh.” Cody pushed her off calmly. This time, it felt like they were more estranged than ever as the physical distance grew between them. Eliza glanced at her hand that he had just pushed off before she broke into a smile. “It’s late now, Mr. Brooks. We should go back. I have to return to work tomorrow. Louie’s desperate to drain every last bit of energy out of me, and things are worse this time since I’ve rested for such a long period. I’m sure he must have piled up tons of things for me to do.”
  • “Uh-huh.” Cody seemed uninterested. Eliza made her way toward the villa as she spoke while he steadily followed behind her. Things were different from when they had been more intimate with one another; this time, they kept a good amount of distance as they walked in a single file. They didn’t get any closer to one another even when they arrived at the entrance of the villa. A faint chill lingered in the air as the two of them remained silent.
