Chapter 8 Eliza Is Pregnant

• Eliza’s heart skipped a beat. Then, as she read what was written on the medical test report, she suddenly experienced a dramatic roller coaster of emotions.
• “Eliza.” Benjamin stared at her with a grave expression. “You must know what’s the absolute taboo in this industry, so don’t do silly things.”
• Eliza was silent, but her hands clenched into fists for a moment without her realizing it as she read the medical test report without speaking.
• “Don’t you know what kind of a person Cody Brooks is? No matter whether he gave you everything that you own right now or not, you’ve at least gained a firm foothold. Are you willing to give up everything you have right now to strive for a future that’s nowhere in sight?” Benjamin almost felt helpless when he saw that Eliza was silent. “Moreover, do you know Cody well? He’s so mysterious in Lake City that nobody knows where he’s from.”
• Eliza didn’t answer him, though.
• “People with such tendencies can’t possibly allow any accidents.” Benjamin was exasperated that Eliza had met such a fate. “You should think it over. A wrong decision can ruin all your efforts in the past five years.”
• Benjamin met Eliza even earlier than Cody did. No matter what the outsiders thought of Eliza, he would always be the one who knew her best, including her ambitions, her motivations, and everything about her.
• “Benjamin.” Eliza cut him short. “Please lend me 1.5 million.”
• Benjamin was speechless. After a moment’s silence, he asked, “Did your father come to you again?”
• “Yeah.” Eliza didn’t deny it.
• “I’ll transfer the money to you.” Benjamin didn’t ask her further.
• Silence suddenly befell them as none of them said anything until Eliza hugged Benjamin voluntarily while whispering softly and impassively, “Thank you, Benjamin.”
• Benjamin’s hands froze in midair for a moment before he hugged her back. He caressed her hair gently, saying, “You silly girl.”
• They stood together silently for a moment before Eliza let go of Benjamin. She kicked the pebble at her feet, saying, “I’m going back to carry on with my filming.”
• As she spoke, she looked at Benjamin with a shadow of a smile on her face. “Don’t visit me on set again, or the rumors about us will really be substantiated. I don’t want to get you into trouble.”
• Benjamin looked at her quietly with his hands in his pockets. “Cody can’t touch me.”
• “But he can touch me,” Eliza replied frankly.
• Benjamin didn’t speak again. After winking at him, Eliza walked back into the set.
• Benjamin stood in place for a long time before turning around to leave.
• It wasn’t until he left that Cody’s tall figure emerged from a dark corner with his hands in his pockets. His face was frighteningly clouded, and the air about him was so forbidding that he couldn’t conceal it at all.
• His gaze fell on Eliza in the set.
• The smiling Eliza, the heartless Eliza, the sycophantic Eliza… Eliza had shown her many sides before him, but she had never been so relaxed as she was in front of Benjamin.
• Cody didn’t even enter the set; instead, he turned around and left. After getting into his car, he made a phone call, leaned back in the seat, and closed his eyes in repose.
• Eliza hadn’t seen Cody for three days since she made him totally furious after the awards ceremony.
• However, she didn’t go to Cody on her own initiative, for she was busy dealing with the matter of John and Elaine. When she had finished dealing with the matter and was about to please him…
• Louie called her. “What the hell did you do, Eliza?!” He sounded exasperated. “Why did Reese Watson end up landing the lead role when you were the one designated as the lead actress?”
