• Eliza was utterly shocked the moment her words slipped out of her mouth. She hadn’t expected the person outside her door to be Cody—a man she hadn’t seen in more than a month. He was dressed in simple black slacks and a white shirt, and he didn’t appear dirty or grubby despite the pouring rain outside. The collar of his shirt was unbelievably crisp and well-ironed. Despite the cold weather, Cody still had his sleeves folded up to his elbows, revealing the firm muscles on his arms.
• “How could you open the door while dressed in this? You seemed like you couldn’t bear to leave Benjamin when you were bidding him goodbye downstairs.
