Chapter 7 She Wants to Trample on This Bottom Line

  • They could feel each other’s warm breaths on their faces as well as their heartbeats.
  • The couch sank under their weight, barely wrapping the two of them up, as though it couldn’t bear any more weight.
  • Eliza seemed unusually aroused on this day. For the very first time, she drove Cody into a corner on this kind of thing.
  • He felt that he was losing his reason.
  • Eliza was so smothered with kisses that she could only whimper and gasp for breath while staring at Cody with her bright, cat-like eyes.
  • Her red lips parted slightly, but one couldn’t tell whether her expression was one of smugness or satisfaction. “I thought you’d stay over in Miss Watson’s bedroom tonight, Mr. Brooks.”
  • Her words ended up extinguishing Cody’s passion instantly. Pulling her away from him right away, he stood up and looked down at her.
  • Eliza was dejected for a moment, but she didn’t say another word, for she knew she had succeeded in making this man angry again.
  • She shouldn’t have asked him about this. For some reason, however, she wanted to keep trampling on this bottom line.
  • Just then, the door to the apartment was opened, and Louie’s nervous figure showed up at the door. When he saw Eliza and Cody, he exclaimed in surprise and turned around immediately.
  • Cody merely glanced at him before ordering coldly, “Clean her up.”
  • With that, he picked up his suit jacket and walked out of the apartment without looking back.
  • Eliza merely sat on the couch without even seeing him off. However, she placed her hand on her belly unknowingly with a tender yet complicated look in her eyes.
  • Louie, on the other hand, soon came to his senses and walked up to her.
  • He gasped in dismay upon seeing her injuries. However, instead of asking her what had happened, he immediately picked up the first aid kit and started treating her wounds. “It’s not that I want to pick at you, lady, but your beauty is the only thing you can rely on to work in this industry. How are you going to continue working in show business if you’re disfigured?”
  • Since he was a little peeved, he exerted too much strength on Eliza’s wound, causing her to cry out in pain. She smiled ingratiatingly at him, but she didn’t say anything.
  • Still looking angry, Louie warned, “Don’t really make President Brooks angry. If you do so, you won’t even be able to stay in Lake City, not to mention this industry.”
  • Eliza gave no answer no matter how Louie admonished her. She sat obediently while nodding from time to time, but her expression was perfunctory.
  • In the end, Louie was so angered that he sneered instead. After treating her wounds, he gave her a few words of advice and left right away.
  • He feared that he would end up suffering from hypertension due to his anger toward Eliza.
  • Eliza, on the other hand, was sleepless the entire night.
  • The next day, Eliza finished filming almost all of her scenes in the morning in one take.
  • The director was full of praise for Eliza’s acting skills. She wasn’t formally trained to be an actress, but her performance was much more polished than those who were trained professionally.
  • Eliza smiled without saying a word before finding somewhere quiet to sit down.
  • However, a shadow loomed over her before she could read the script for the next scene.
  • Benjamin stood brazenly in front of her with his hands in his pockets.
  • The crew members craned their necks to watch what was happening.
  • As a matter of fact, the most talked-about gossip in Lake City these days was the rumor about Eliza and Benjamin dating for real after playing a couple on-screen.
  • It was apparent that Benjamin’s appearance on the set where Eliza was filming lent weight to the rumors of their romance.
  • Without beating around the bush, Benjamin asked Eliza with a darkened expression, “Do you want us to talk here, or do you want to talk to me somewhere else?”
  • Eliza was silent for a moment before she stood up. “Let’s talk somewhere else.”
  • Benjamin took a glance at her. Then, he stretched out his hand right away, pulling her up from her seat before walking out of the set.
  • Eliza didn’t struggle.
  • Once they were out of the set, Benjamin tossed two papers in front of Eliza. He asked in an affirmative tone, “Is this yours?”
