Chapter 10 I Was Jealous, Mr Brooks

  • Cody’s hands clenched into fists in his pockets. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, and his thin lips were pressed together.
  • Each of his nerves tensed up and went numb with Eliza’s unintentional movements.
  • Just as Cody knew Eliza’s every erogenous zone, Eliza had a good grasp of his weakness.
  • She knew what she could do to make him unable to resist her seduction without making him bored.
  • Cody’s face fell. Before he could speak, however, Eliza—who was originally busying herself in front of the kitchen countertop—suddenly turned around with a smile on her pretty face. “You’re back, Mr. Brooks.”
  • Without wearing shoes, she then trotted up to Cody with a bowl in one hand and a fork holding a chunk of freshly-prepared braised pork belly in the other.
  • This was Cody’s favorite dish.
  • “Try it.” Her voice was soft and obsequious. “I made a special effort to learn how to cook this dish from Little China’s chef, but I don’t know how it tastes.”
  • Then, she put the delicious-looking chunk of braised pork belly to Cody’s lips.
  • However, Cody didn’t soften his attitude after taking another look at Eliza’s ingratiating face. He asked in a grim tone, “What are you doing here?”
  • Eliza wasn’t angry upon seeing that Cody didn’t eat the chunk of meat. Instead, she hung her head and replied sincerely, “I’m here to apologize.”
  • She placed the bowl and the fork on the table before holding his hand cautiously with her slim hands.
  • Cody’s expression was cold, but he didn’t reject her advances.
  • This emboldened her a little, so she reached her palm over and shook his arm gently with a pitiful and hurt expression on her pretty face.
  • “I was jealous, Mr. Brooks.” Her low voice was very pleasant to hear. “I was jealous because you were holding Miss Watson’s hand. I definitely won’t lose my temper again next time, okay?” she said while pressing herself against Cody and standing on tiptoe to kiss him. “Look at me; I’m here to offer you a humble and sincere apology.” Then, she stuck out her fair finger. “There is a saying whereby one should prepare food for the man she loves. I had a hard time learning how to make this dish, so will you do me the honor of tasting it, Mr. Brooks?”
  • Cody still didn’t speak, but his expression had softened.
  • Eliza could tell each of his reactions, of course, so she breathed a secret sigh of relief.
  • She wrapped her slim arms around his neck, but he gripped her wrist when she wanted to lay her body on top of his.
  • “What are you doing?” His voice was so deep that she couldn’t tell any emotion in it.
  • Eliza smiled coquettishly. Her mouth opened and closed as she whispered in a fatally seductive and frighteningly low voice, “Cody…”
  • Cody relaxed without him realizing it.
  • Eliza’s fair skin blushed as she whispered to Cody’s ear, but Cody kept a straight face the whole time.
  • She let go of his hand after finishing her sentence. Seeing that he didn’t respond at all, she backed away a little.
  • Just then, however, Cody spoke. “Didn’t you make some braised pork belly?”
  • “It’s here.” Responding quickly, Eliza immediately held up the bowl of braised pork belly before him.
  • “Feed me,” he ordered.
  • Eliza obediently put the chunk of meat into his mouth and watched with a nervous expression as he ate it. “Is it delicious? I’ve put a great deal of effort into it!”
  • “Hmm, it’s not bad.”
  • “What do you mean, it’s not bad?”
  • “Eliza!” Cody raised his voice a little.
  • Eliza immediately behaved herself and cleverly changed the subject. “In that case, should I stir-fry some vegetables before calling you for dinner in a while? Why don’t you take a bath first? I drew you a bath.”
  • Cody gazed intently at Eliza instead of answering her, sending a chill down her spine.
  • Suddenly, he scooped Eliza up in his arms. After turning off the stove, he headed straight for the bathroom on the second floor.
